To date we have focused on the first two areas, however the area of Akuna Street near the playing fields was planted up by our then Catchment Liaison Officer (Chris Kahler) with support of community service workers, local residents and members of CCRG. This area is largely self-sustaining.
The CCRG started in June 1993 and in 2003 we celebrate our tenth anniversary. The birth of the group was inspired by the presence of remnant rainforest – about 2 trees, some low growing bushes, groundcovers and a vine (at that time unidentified). Since 1993 the complexity of the site has increased and we now have a number of zones or special areas – Frog Hollow, the Ephemeral Pond Area, the ‘Dog’ Pond’ area and its drains to harness the stormwater, the original Remnant Rainforest site, the Camphor Laurel area, the Food for Wildlife site, and our most recent – the Brisbane City Council’s Schedule 80 site which was publicly launched and planted up at the Riverclean4 event in June 2003.
