About us

Acacia fimbriata

The Gubberley Creek Bushland Care Group is one of the oldest groups within the Cubberla and Witton Creek Catchments area having started working along Gubberley Creek  in 1993.

Our enthusiasm is undiminished. We are small in numbers but very active. Our monthly working bees are effective, and we are proud of the changes we have made.  Some of our retired members work along the creek almost every single day.

Habitat Brisbane supports us with guidance and material help. We love our local area and Gubberley Creek and hope to encourage more neighbours to join us and help restore a healthy natural environment along the creek banks.

Goals and Objectives

Our group's activities have always been based on our original objectives as submitted to the Council in the early 1990s. They were and still are:

·        To enhance and maintain the natural environment on the nominated areas as closely as practical to resemble the original native vegetation occurring in the district.

·        To create a permanent pathway along the creek corridor to link Marshall Lane with the Kenmore State School.

·        To manage the area in cooperation with land holders to maximise its values for nature conservation and recreation.

·         To maintain, upgrade and extend the walking track through the area in a way that increases its usefulness to the community.

·         To consolidate recently planted areas so they develop into pockets of bush.

·         To attack the weed situation, both trees and plants, so that it doesn’t get any worse, and contain infestations.

·         To pick some additional very small areas where an individual is prepared to take responsibility for maintaining new plants of appropriate species, protecting them against weed growth and the Council’s contractors mowers, within a plan agreed with the group and Council liaison officers.

Gubberley Creek and the walking corridor along it are valued by the neighbourhood. Even though plenty of work is left to do our group is determined to further improve this precious nature asset at our doorsteps.

Come and join us!
