About us

Daviesia villifera

Kimba Street Reserve is a substantial area of bushland bounded by the Western Freeway, Burbong St, Kimba St and Clarina St.

In 1983, the Brisbane City Council as owner of this then residential land attempted to develop the site for housing.  Thanks to a vigorous campaign by several locals the proposal was blocked, mainly as there was inadequate parkland in the Chapel Hill area. The  land was subsequently rezoned to remain as bushland and walking tracks were built primarily to connect this area with Moggill Rd and Moore Park.

Pittosporum undulatumThe Kimba Street Bushcare Group is now in its sixth year. Even before our group was formed several attempts had been made to  eliminate Chinese elm and ochna and other invasive weeds in the Reserve. We are now working to a plan, supported and guided by the City Councils Habitat Brisbane Program. We are a small but enthusiastic group which meets once a month.  Our work commenced at the Clarina St park end of the reserve and we have had good success in this area.  The  once impenetrable morning glory vine thickets are almost totally eliminated now in the reserve. With assistance from the Council, other groups and a recent grant, several areas of Chinese elm, ochna, and cats whiskers vine have been attacked with some success.

Because of the large area of this reserve and constant new weed introductions, there is still much to do to preserve the natural integrity of this bushland.
