Discover Little Gubberley

raging torrentLittle Gubberley Creek is a spring-fed creek in the suburb of South Kenmore. It emerges from a concrete “bunker” behind Kenmore State School and meanders downhill to meet Cubberla Creek at the Akuna Ovals. Cubberla Creek then goes on to meet the Brisbane River which eventually flows into the Pacific Ocean. It is possible that the eels in Little Gubberley Creek make their journey to and fro this watery highway.

There is so much we can learn from this little creek.

The creek is always changing. It can be a rushing torrent or, in drought, a trickle. When there is heavy rain, the water flows off roofs, roads, driveways, down through the stormwater pipes to create a rushing flow of water. The banks overflow in places and the water carries all kinds of things including native seeds, weeds and rubbish. These torrents subside however quickly.

Mostly Little Gubberley Creek exists as a shallow, narrow creek where children can safely play amongst its rock pools.
