Ultimately The Guardians of Little Gubberley (GOLG) want to extend the biodiversity of the indigenous flora and fauna and help maintain a closed forest ecosystem along Little Gubberley Creek. For the health of the creek and its riparian environment, this must be undertaken over time and with caution, so as not to cause erosion or degradation of the creek or removal of its inhabitants.
GOLG works in small areas of clearing and planting along Little Gubberley, leaving larger areas between these that are untouched, even if they’re weed infested. This is called a mosaic pattern. It ensures that habitat is left for creek critters to live in whilst other areas are regenerating. Also creek banks are protected from erosion, when we leave a ribbon of vegetation along their edges when clearing weeds, to be visited later.
The health of the creek has to come first.
