Watching the Water

[ Photos from Waterwatch activities will be added soon ]

Part of getting to know the creek and keeping an eye on its health, is through taking part in Waterwatch. Periodically we monitor the water by testing for dissolved oxygen, nitrogen, phosphates, salt, PH, turbidity and by looking for aquatic life. The presence of certain sensitive water beasts indicates the good health of the creek. Little Gubberley has overall had a good health rating, however the water is more salty than that of the Brisbane River in the adjacent area. The Waterwatch program has made this possible and keeps records of areas in the catchment. GOLG likes to encourage local school children to care for the creek, especially as it runs past its back yard. Kenmore South State School has been involved with planting ground covers, waterwatch and art activities with GOLG at one of our sites
