BUSHCARE IS BEAUT

By Stephen Wilson

Don’t you like watching the colourful native birds fluttering amongst the tall eucalypts, wattles and other native trees, while listening to the musical flow of the creek and the humming of dragonflies?

Well I do.

The thing is, not all creeks and parks in Brisbane have such a beaut biodiversity.  For a start exotic trees, vines and seedlings are choking native vegetation while feral animals, non-native birds and other exotic species are driving out the native fauna and eating their  food.

That is why we are encouraging  YOU   to join our group or one of the many other Bushcare groups in Brisbane and why I am telling you why I joined the Moore Park Bushcare Group.

Reason 1: I come to Bushcare because it’s fun: planting, watering, weeding, moving mulch and all the other things we do.

Reason 2: I think that we should try to restore as much as possible of the creek’s natural biodiversity.

Reason 3: I like learning about the fungus, native plants, macroinvertibrates, birds, identifying exotic weeds, exploring the history of the creek and how the creek works.

Reason 4: One of the reasons why I keep coming back is because I feel really great when you know your making a beneficial difference and when you see the work you have put into returning the natural biodiversity.

Reason 5: When I see people damaging a creek or river catchment, I feel that, if humans are going to make such a severe impact on the catchment, everyone needs to try and mend the situation or else, in the end, the impact shall affect humans too.
