What do we do?

Moore Park is  a bushland remnant in our suburb. We value it as a precious neighbourhood asset and have been working to improve the park,  which in many areas is highly infested with exotic weeds.

Our aim is not only to protect and improve the habitat for existing animal species including aquatic life in Witton Creek, but also to re-establish viable communities of some of the animals which are no longer found in the area.

We want to regenerate healthy plant communities by removing all pest weeds and by planting native trees, shrubs, grasses etc. appropriate to the particular environmental zones of Moore Park.

Our  bushcare group consists entirely of volunteers and, since its formation in July 2000, member numbers have grown substantially. Habitat Brisbane has provided us with continuous guidance and support.

We hope to further widen the circle of neighbourhood involvement and to increase the local environmental awareness and responsibility.

Arbor Day Planting

Students from  Indooroopilly State School  traditionally  plant “their” trees in Moore Park on Arbor Day. Every year all Grade 5 students participate with lots of enthusiasm.

Community Help Day

Social Action Day at Moore Park (below). Students from the Brigidine College spent a morning at the park actively helping to restore it. Their work is much appreciated.

Fun and Fellowship

Being a member of the Moore Park Bushcare Group also means to have fun and fellowship. We meet neighbours, make new friends, learn about the environment and our local area. We look forward to our working bees as well as the BBQs in our park.
