The largest group in this family is formed by acacias. Australia is host to approximately 950 different species of wattles. They range from groundcovers (e.g. Acacia amblygona) to trees (e.g. Acacia maidenaii). Flowers appear usually in clusters of either spikes or globular heads. Fruit a pod. Not all acacia species depicted here are native to the Cubberla and Witton Creeks catchments, but were found in them and are common to the Greater Brisbane area.
